Recycle bin display

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Home Basic
preinstalled. When I delete files and send them to the recycle bin they do
not appear in the bin when I open it. I know that the deleted files are in
the bin because I can search for a specific file and recover it from the bin,
I can also empty the bin and be informed how many files are to be permanently
deleted. Even the icon changes from empty to full. Files are simply not
displayed when in the bin. Any ideas???
