I have a new computer with Vista. My recycle keeps emptying itself. I have
increased the size to 294940 but it is still doing this.
Can anyone help please?

ok the thing is with windows vista it has to do that no matter how big you
decide to make it.
It is built to do this so is has less chance of getting a virus except from
that new one found back in feb 08 when/ if you open an email with writing on
it saying 2012 oplimpics (can't spell that word sorry i have dyslexia) or a
picture of flag then it will destory the whole computer.
Plus if you want to make it wireless you have to buy an £80 pound piece of
equipement called a wireless rerouter you have to put into the back of the
modemem (can't that word ehtier sorry again) it looks the same as a modemem.
:-)

Hello fibala
It's not the size that causes it to empty automatically
Put cursor on recycle bin icon, right click, click Properties
Checkmark( or dot) Custom size, a blue dot will appear. ( Somehow yo
had the other option dotted, that's why it keeps emptying.) Make sure
Display delete confirmation dialog" is checked. Click APPLY, then OK
That's it. Try delete something and see what happens. Inform me if i
helps

Thank you very much t-4-2. I am SURE that I had all that you suggested, but
it is still empting itself. The other reply I had from mangakitten said that
it is normal for vista to do this, but I find that very strange, why does it
still have the "empty recyle bin" option when you right click it?
Can you suggest anything else please?

Many thanks for your time

Hello fibala,
See if this can help:-
1.) Delete your recycle bin that's on the desktop
2.) Right click on the open desktop, click Personalize
3.) Left panel, click Change Desktop Icons
4.) [Under Desktop Icons heading, make sure Recycle Bin box is
checked.]
Click recycle bin (Full) icon, click Change Icon
5.) Click recycle bin (Full) icon, click OK
6.) Click recycle bin (EMPTY) icon, click Change Icon
7.) Click recycle bin (EMPTY) icon, click OK
8.) Click APPY, then OK.
You should have a recycle icon back where the old one was. Try delete
an item. See if it's back to normal. Please let me know if it's ok now.

Many many thanks for your efforts to solve my problem of the self emptying
recyle bin.
All to no avail I am affraid to say.

As you suggested I removed it from the desk top & then re installed it.
It is still empting itself.

I am unable to find anything which is making it do it. It seems a random
action. I put something in it, do some work, go to desktop...still there...
do some more work...desk top..still there...work...desktop...GONE
Short of sitting with a stop watch looking at it on the desk top I am unable
to give you any hint of why/when it is self emptying

Any suggestions please?

Best wishes

Hello fibala,
" When all else fails, go to old reliable --- system restore ". Do you
know how to do system restore ? If you do, make sure you pick the date
before problem started as your restore point. If you don't know how, let
me know, I'll be rigt there. OK ?

As I said it is a new computer, only been used for last couple of days. As
far as I can tell it has happened from day 1.

If it helps I have been keeping an eye on it, & it has emptied itself
several times today. There does not seem to be anything I do that precedes it.

It is all a bit scary, particularly as I am trying to set it up, transfer
files etc.

Hope you can come up with a solution

Best wishes, & thanks for your time

Fibala, my dear ! I said system restore. Please do it , then tell me if
it works or not. OK ?
As to transferring files, recycle bin has Nothing to do with it. You
don't have to worry that.

Thanks again for your reply.

I appreciate that recycle bin is nothing to do with transfering files, but I
have been deleting documents & pictures because I had duplicated them. The
scary bit is if I delete the wrong ones by mistake I & then the recycle bin
empties itself I will have lost the document/file.

As to doing a system restore. The very first point is 18/04 Install Vista
service pack 1.

I will do this now & then let you know of any developments

Best wishes
