Recycling desktop icon

While trying to empty my recycling bin on my computer i accidentally deleted
the icon from my desktop. I managed to restore the icon through the
Personalization screen in the Control panel, but now the icon will not change
to show whether or not it is full or empty. It is either stuck on the empty
icon or the full icon depending on which one I selected through the
Personalization settings.

Is there a way to restore the morphong function of the icon to show its
status as full or empty?

Recycle Bin icon does not refresh automatically:
