Reducing DPI below 100% to get more character space

I'm running Vista Ultimate and I want to get more characters on the screen
by reducing the DPI which is currently 96. I go into the DPI settings on
Vista and I'm able to increase the DPI number for bigger characters, but
unable to reduce it for smaller characters. I *do* recall having acheived
this in the past (perhaps I was using Windows XP Pro at the time). Is there
some way to reduce the number of DPI below 96 (which is 100%)? TIA David

Hi David,

This tutorial will show you how. Just do a "Custom DPI" in step 4C.

I had done the "custom" DPI but it would not allow me to go below the
default 96 (e.g. 80) by either typing in e.g. 90% or by moving the ruller to
the left. How do I do this? I also tried the XP scaling checkmark and
still I could not do it.
