Hi,

I intend to have two DHCP server (win 2003) for the same subnet. Would the
following configuration be correct?

DHCP Server 1
Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.64 to .250
Exclusion: 192.168.20.151 to .250

DHCP Server 2
Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.64 to .250
Exclusion: 192.168.20.64 to .150

The ranges .1 to .63 and .251 to 254 are fixed addresses, which are
manually configured on the various devices.

I am unsure, because in the examples I saw in Internet, the "Address range
for distribution" was covering ALL addresse: from .1 to .154.

TIA

Alex

Looks good to me, just don't forget to add any Reservations on both
servers (if you have any).

I usually put the whole range .1-to-.254 in the scope just like the examples
you saw. Just add other Exclusions to cover it the statics.

DHCP Server 1
Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.64 to .250
Exclusion: 192.168.20.1 to .63
Exclusion: 192.168.20.251 to .254
Exclusion: 192.168.20.151 to .250

DHCP Server 2
Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.64 to .250
Exclusion: 192.168.20.1 to .63
Exclusion: 192.168.20.251 to .254
Exclusion: 192.168.20.64 to .150

Tanks Chris and Phillip

Phillip, you mean I should put

Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.1 to .254

not

Address range for distribution: 192.168.20.64 to .250

Am I correct?

TIA

Alex

Hello Alex,

If you use 1 - 63 only fixed, you don't need to assign them in the scope.

Best regards

It's optional,...a preference,...but that it how I always do it. I give the
Scope the maximum capacity and then use Exclusions to adjust it.
