If you wish to install Windows XP Service Pack 2, try to directly download
it and install it. Here's how:
SP2 is available at the Microsoft Download Center (please disregard the IT
Professionals and Developers portion of this, as it will run on an
individual computer as well: (266 MB)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a
Save this file, then open it after it downloads. Follow the prompts.
While it is downloading though, you might do the following two things:
Empty Temporary Internet Files:
1. In the Internet Explorer window you have open, click Tools
2. Click Internet Options...
3. On the general tab, click the "Delete Files" button, then include the
"Delete offline files" checkbox and confirm.
4. Click OK to exit
5. Minimize the Internet Explorer window
Empty the %temp% folder:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: %temp% <Enter>
4. When this folder opens, select all with <Ctrl>+<A>
5. Press the <Delete> key, and confirm you wish to delete all the items in
this folder. Do not be concerned if one of your programs will not let you
delete it, as it relates to a process you have open -- that is, unless you
do not recognize the program.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
