By default the length of time for intersite replication is 3 hours. Are you
sure it isn't a 3 hour delay as opposed to a full day? If the system wasn't
replicating at all I would be concerned but I'm thinking it is just a 3
hours delay that has you thinking a full day.

I would recommend both dc's run Active Directory Integrated DNS as well as
be Global Catalogs. Have each dc point to itself first and the other dc as
secondary.
