Hi,

I am looking for a Register Cleaner which will clean-up remaining parts of
installed / removed SW.

Which one is causing no problems within Vista?

Regards
Huib

I am using both CCleaner and Wise Registry Cleaner (both are free) :

http://www.ccleaner.com/

http://www.wisecleaner.com/

The trick to successfully using a registry cleaner is to NOT remove a
registry
entry unless you are sure what it is or does. A little Google Research on
suspected entries will go a long way.

hallo,
Thanks for the information.
CCleaner is very good and Vista compatible but i have an impression that the
register is not cleaned on items earlier installed / removed.

Wisecleaner is doing a lot more , but i have an impression that it is a
16-bit SW which caused some problems (maybe my fault as i didn't run it in
compatibility XP mode), nevertheless i prefer a 32-bit version.

regards
Huib

I had never heard of this registry cleaner and I was about to try it out..
but it's skinnable!

Why the hell would a techinical piece of software like that be skinnable
like some software targeted at teenagers??

I also use Auslogic Defrag and Registry Compressor, both free.

http://www.auslogics.com/

I just ran the Registry compressor and the registry was compressed from
55,600K to 49,000K which saved 6.6 Meg of registry space and the
program claimed the registry was at least 16% faster. Since the registry
is essentially a flat file database with data in binary format the smaller
it
is, generally, the faster it should be able to function.

To run the Compressor close all programs and you may need to stop
some with Task Manager. The compressor does create a Restore Point
before compressing.

They want it to look pretty as it's removing valid entries from your
registry and crashing your PC.

"Registry," not "register."

> Which one is causing no problems within Vista?

They *all* have the serious potential to cause problems. I strongly
suggest you avoid using any registry cleaning program. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Hi Ken,
I was afraid using any cleaner, that was the reason of my question and you
convinced me.
Thanks for the correction to registry but in our dutch language we say just
register...

The reason of my question was that HP-support is asking me to clean-up the
registry for the problem of my scanner HPscanjet 4570c, but by now i will no
further execute it.

Regards
Huib

Glad to hear it.

OK, every language is different. I don't like to correct people's use
of words, but when it's the subject we're talking about, I wanted to
make sure you had the right name for it.

Do they say specifically what to clean up in the registry? Can't you
make the changes they want by a direct registry edit with Regedit?
