The 0x80040154 error is
0x80040154 - REGDB E CLASSNOTREG
BITS in Windows 2000 is dependent on SENS and EventSystem services. If COM+
catalog is corrupted, one of these errors was seen.
But based on the "Microsoft Update" messages and the "Windows Installer"
messages, I would offer the following possible course of action:
(1) Remove Windows Installer v3.1
(2) Download WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe from the download center and
install it using the /wuforce switch. (If you don't use the switch, it'll
simply tell you it's already installed -- even if the installation is
defective.)
(3) Go back to Windows Update and reinstall Windows Installer v3.1 (or
download a fresh copy from the download center).
(4) Then retry the Office installation.
It's a new idea... .I have no idea that it'll work, but based on the
collection of errors you're seeing, at least we'll eliminate all of these as
a possible cause by knowing they're fresh and clean.
