Registry Cleaners - Friend or Foe

Hi,

I was having this exact problem with the 4 failing updates per thread. I
took Robins suggestion and used my registry cleaner and backed everything
out. Problem solved. Not it leads me to wonder,

I was cleaning to resolve a perceived performance issue by having a junked
up registry from spyware and malware of all sorts. You remove the malware,
but it's been my opinion that the registry entries stay, which is why this
things keep popping up week after week. At least I think.

Anyway, can anyone comment on if cleanning the registry needs or does
anything or just forget it. It would seem this time it caused more trouble
than anything it solved and I had to pay $29 to boot. By the way, I'm using
RegCure from a UK outfit.

Your comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Douglas - private chat's can be had at

XP has built-in techniques for keeping the registry in good shape. It
really is not helped by so-called "cleaners" deleting random bits of the
registry that they ought not to. The claims for registry cleaners are
largely hype.

I agree that it does nothing for performance but I hate it when some rogue
app leaves 20 or so registry entries behind. There are bad reg cleaners and
there are good ones. Plus some have tools that do more than just clean the
registry. I have never had a problem with Macecraft's RegsupremePro but I
do take their claim of improve performance with a large grain of salt. Same
can be said of 3rd party HDD defrags. I've never seen a performance
increase using a 3rd party defrag compared to the one that comes with XP
even though they make claims that they do increase HDD performance.

Garrot said, "I hate it when some rogue app leaves 20 or so registry entries

Garrot that they do little for performance; but strange entries left in the
registry can cause strange issues.
You might run a "full service scan at" at:

Do NOT use this site: it damages your registry and prevents all further
Office updates.
