Registry error after lastest updates.

After installing the lastest updates from Monday I am getting the following
message when someone logs onto a WindowsXP PC that does not have SP2
installed yet "One of the files containing the system's registry data had to
be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was
successful." All my PC's running XP (200+) are getting this message after
they received updates from our SUS server. I can't put SP2 on the machines
yet cause we have not tested it enough to make sure it will work with all our
applications. Anybody else having this problem or know how to fix it.
Thank you very much.

I have put this message up several times by accident. I did not mean to do
that. Sorry.

I'm also experiencing this problem. Anytime I login to my domain, I receive
the Registry Recovery message. Problem is not exhibited when logging in
locally. This is after a fresh install of WinXP PRO w/SP1 and updates
installed.

Also, after KB834707 update is installed, I am no longer able to access
WindowsUpdate (Error: 0x80072F78)

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

Installing KB873377 might solve the problem:

An update rollup is available for Internet Explorer 6 SP1

Rick, I'm in much the same position as ZAK - unable/unwilling as yet to roll
out SP2 and was experiencing this error message on all XP clients.
Uninstalling KB840987 did the trick for me.

Thank you Gavin and Torgeir.

Both recommendations worked.
