registry info corrupt/missing

I used Windows Easy Transfer Companion to transfer programs from my old
laptop (Windows XP) to the new one (Vista). Most programs were transferred.
But for a couple, the error message 'Registry info missing or corrupt. Please
reinstall.' pops up. I've done uninstalled and put the program back, but it
doesn't help. What else can I try? On XP, the program works without any such
issues.

Sorry but it is not possible to transfer programs because when originally
installed they integrated with Windows as most programs do, using common
files and scripts. You can copy the whole drive, called ghosting, to another
drive but not other wise.

Thanks for your reply Ian. Actually, I tried to transfer the whole drive as
you mentioned. All the programs in the C: drive were transferred, and only 2
of them are giving me the registry error message.

Then you will need to reload with the CD. If you don't have a CD then sorry
but its not go and you will just have to delete those two.

Hi Amy,

The tool isn't perfect, and some programs simply cannot be transferred.
Those that cannot will need to be reinstalled from the original installation
media.

And, not all programs that run in XP will install or run in Vista. Check to
see if they are Vista compatible.
