Okay, for several days I have been trying to download Windows SP2 because I
have turned on Automatic Updates.
This has been going for several months and every time I have tried to
install Windows Security Pack 2, the installation stops in a window pops up
telling me that 'Access is denied'.

I found out that there was a solution to this problem by finding certain
registry keys on setupapi.log (or something related like that, I'm afraid I
am noy a computer expert). And then delete them using regedit.

My question is, how do you know which registry keys to delete? Are there
other solutions to solve this 'Access is Denied' problem?

Thank you!

Hi

Please see the "Access denied" section here:

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

I suggest you start out with the SubInAcl.exe tip there and see if
that solves your problem.

I have done what you have suggested but I'm afraid I am still unable to
download Windows SP2, constantly in the middle of the installation. It stops
and a window pops up stating that Access is Denied...

Just a note:
I have Ad-Aware, Spybot: Search and Destroy and SpywareBlaster on the
computer, could that be a part of this problem?

Hi

Maybe, I suggest you uninstall them and see if that helps.

Also, some log files you can check for any clues or error messages:

%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

You might need to enable verbose logging to find the reason in one
of those log file, see here for how to enable it:
