Will I regret not getting Vista?

I wish to buy a nice new tablet laptop, but am delaying the purchase because
I am unsure whether to get XP or Vista. I have had Vista on my PC for six
months and it really sucks - not only is it unreliable but I just hate the
whole condescending, fussy, annoying interface. From what I know about Vista
in its current form it is a total lemon and I should order my new laptop
with XP.

But might I later regret the decision? Anybody know what future plans are
for Vista? Is Microsoft going to make it just a bit more pleasant to use,
fix all the bugs and bring in some new features?

So you are saying that you have had Vista on your machine and it really
sucks. If you have the option to getting XP, then maybe XP would be better
for you. Vista offers nothing new right now that you would be missing. Run
your apps on XP. XP is pretty stable.

Future plans for Microsoft: Issue SP's for Vista and bring out Windows 7.

Translation: Keep "fixing" what the fanboy loons say isn't broken.
Develop a new system that in grand Microsoft tradition be even more
buggy than Vista.

Reality Check: I've been extremely patient with Microsoft waiting for
over 20 years for them to release a rock solid, fast, reliable, truly
secure version. They haven't been able to yet. Why should anyone think
another 20 years of trying will result in anything better?

If you have had Vista on your PC for six months and you think it sucks
you probably have not yet learned how to configure it or understand it. If,
for you, Vista is unreliable, it is probably due to the manner in which you
have configured it and the third party software installed on it. I could be
wrong, so don't take it personally.
If you hate the interface you should go back to XP, buy a Mac or choose
an open source OS. If you think Vista is a lemon then it is probably so
because of your configurations, third party software and your hardware.
Again, I could be wrong, so don't take it personally.
I'm not a Vista fanboy or a Microsoft fanboy in any manner. I am not
defending either in any way. However, I researched Vista before purchasing a
new computer and I made sure the new computer had the appropriate hardware
to run it. I haven't had any problems.
I am careful about third party software installed on my computer and I
will not install any third party software that is not totally compatible
with Vista. I don't rely on the third party vendors' claims that their
product is Vista compatible because more times than not these vendors are
not being truthful. I will first test the software in a virtual environment
or in a partition allocated for such testing. I haven't had any problems
with third party software.
I don't try to "tweak" Vista with third party software to make it
perform more like XP and I'm not saying that you do. As a matter of fact I
think Vista is far superior to XP and just as fast. It is also much more
secure. Some of these security improvements are what cause many people to
either dislike Vista or have problems trying to do things they could do on
XP but cannot do on Vista. I decided to move forward with Vista. I still
have three systems with XP installed but I personally like Vista better.
Personal choice, that's all.
Yes, I think Vista is a bloated OS and needs to be simplified and I
think Microsoft should have listened more to their own developers and the
beta testers. I think Microsoft could do much more to improve Vista and
make it easier to use. There are good points about Vista and there are bad
points. Most of Vista's problems are caused by Microsoft's desire to use an
abundance of code from several different operating systems and tie them all
together to work properly without problems. That's not going to happen.
I am not trying to start any arguments with you or anyone else. You
should use the OS you prefer. If you don't want to go back to XP you can
switch to a Linux based OS, which includes OS X. What matters is what makes
you happy and what you feel comfortable with.
I don't get BSODs. I don't get Windows Explorer crashes or Internet
Explorer crashes. Sure, I have minor problems with this and with that, which
is to be expected. I either research the problems myself or request
assistance from others in solving them. I've never failed to have a problem
solved or find a viable workaround..
If you wish to stay with Vista I'm sure you'll like it once you have
everything thrashed out. If you wish to go back to XP there is nothing wrong
about doing so and you should not be criticized for your decision. If you
wish to switch to OS X or go open source that's fine also.

Nobody really cares about your Reality Check and your opinion since you
blast everyone who has an opinion on Vista. Why not remove Vista from your
machine, because you seem to really dislike it. Why use something you don't
like? Rush out and get Ubuntu and that should keep you happy so you can
stop whining each and every day about Vista.

He probably keeps a small partition with dormant Vista on it for the same
reasons I do. It is likely for professional reasons I will be forced to
use a MS-Windows product, maybe even Vista. It is also possible
Microsoft will fix this mistake, although I think they are now too deep
into the hole so to speak with Vista.

I do run Ubuntu, as of yesterday 8.04 and this is what I am typing it in
on. Not everyone is into Vista bloat and slowness. Runs nice for those
that don't want to re-purchase a second OS like XP to be double dipped.
And those that don't want to wait for a undetermined length of time for a
Vista fix.

I would have bought the new tablet a few weeks ago if I had a convincing
experience with Vista. But really Vista brings more problems than it solves.
