helo
I know my computer is infected
I did System retore back to a diffrent Antivirus Programm
I had Avast4home free, I uninstalled it, and installed Avg free
when I did System restore I went back to far, my misstake
it had to uninstall Avg and reinstall Avast
The Avast now is incomplete
(windows Security don't like it)
can not uninstall nor reinstall,
tried to download a new one hopin it would fix it, did not run
I tried to reinstall from backed up files from DVD I have made
I could not make it work
Firefox also does not work nor can uninstall it

I have no files to keep, Exept the
Microsoft Works, like to keep, came with computer, will try to put it on DVD

I like to Reinstall a new, wipe clean
It used to be Factory Install with C Drive and D drive (partition ?)
It no longer is, now its C drive only, I had others do a reinstall ($$)

Now I lke to try it myself
this is a
Emachines
Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit SP1 (SP1 update)
Intal (R) Celeron (R) D CPU 3.33 GHz
512 MB RAM
Intel (R) 82945 G Express Chipset Family

I have a
Operating System Disc ( to reinstall Operating System came w/computer)
I have made
Drivers and Appliction Disc

(what about windows ?)
Email from Gateway Support tell me this is a media less System
and Note book in a partition (what ever that is)
(have looked for note book no luck)
Partition? I only see 1 drive, C drive,
used space 29.4 GB
free space 82.3 GB
capacity 111 GB
I know what F8 shows me
I probly get diffrent options when I put in the OS disc
butting options i guess
any guides an hinds I will carefully study
Thanks

Your screen name seems to describe my appearance. If you can get to the
internet, download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware program.
http://www.malwarebytes.org Once it has cleaned the system, try CCleaner to
clean up the mess. http://www.ccleaner.com/ It just might save your
reinstallation.

You can't save Microsoft Works to a DVD.

Good luck!

GEEZ! If your thinking is as scrambled as what you wrote above, it's
no wonder things are screwed up. I stopped reading after "I like to
Reinstall a new, wipe clean".

Stick whatever disc you have that came with the system - or that you
might have created from the restore partition - boot from it, and
follow whatever prompts appear to lead you to return the computer to
factory-new condition.

If you can't find the programs in Add or Remove Programs panel then
download and use this:
Revo Uninstaller

Good.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...alling_Windows - What
you will need on-hand

Before you attempt to 'wipe 'n clean', try these:
On-demand AV applications.
(add them to your arsenal and use them as a "second opinion" av scanner).
David H. Lipman's MULTI_AV Tool
http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28400/28470/Multi_AV.exe

--and/or--
Kaspersky's AVPTool
http://downloads5.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/AVPTool/
--or--

There's no updating involved since the scanning engine is updated
several times a day and you simply download the updated scanner whenever
you want to do a scan.

Whatever you chose, after your system is considered to be clean, implement
some kind of a *security concept*, review your anti-whatever software
programs and browsing habits.

When you get totally fed up with all this anti-virus garbage, you might
think about installing Linux - no need for it.

As far as I know, you can if you want to - I don't.

Linux is always free - as in 'free choice' - it can also be free as in
'free beer' if you want that. You can also pay for it and get support
from the vendor - your choice. It also comes with many applications:
OpenOffice, GIMP, ... virtually all the software you pay money for on
your MS system has a free and usually included Linux alternative.
