reinstall problem

Hi, can any one help me? I bought my son a laptop it is an IBM Think pad
pentium2 64mb ram. I installed windows xp pro on it and it is now taking
really long to do anything. A friend told me that xp pro is too much for that
computer and to install windows 95 or 98. Can someone tell me how I install
this because when I put the 98 cd in it say's you can not install windows 98
while running this version of windows. Could someone tell me how to do this
and if this will solve the problem.Thanks Alan

have to reformat the hard disk and do a clean install of WIn98
seriously this laptop may not be suitable for Win98 too

Just be careful: Microsoft has stopped service packs and security updates
for Windows 98, meaning that Microsoft is no longer updating or supporting
the operating system against future issues that may appear. If you're
looking for an XP substitute, consider Windows 2000. Microsoft is (for the
time being) still releasing security updates for it, and it's more stable
than Win98.

mm,well i sold an ibm think pad for £50,they are totaly rubbish running on
pro as this was on my ibm.try millenium install on the laptop its a better
form of 98.you do not have enough ram or a big enough hard drive on the
laptop thats why its slow.so 2 choices install millenium as a cheaper option
or add more ram and a larger hard drive of at least 20 gig then reinstall
pro.either of these options will cure the problem.
