Reinstall WLM2009 over broken 2009?

I've got a 2009 version that will NOT uninstall via Add/Remove or
ZapMessenger (some items were removed ie tray icon and one of 4 items in the
Start>Programs list). Windows Live Essentials refuses to leave when using
Add/Remove. I just can't figure out how to get rid of the thing after it
gave the 'classic' ..."unavailible, please try again later" when trying to
sign in to vers14(2009). It worked for nearly 3 wks then suddenly stopped.
I'm thinking it is missing some files necessary to do an "uninstall", soooo I
now would like to know what the implications are of going to Microsoft and
trying a new download of WLM2009 (overtop?) of the version that seems to only
partially exist in my XP system now.
PS...I've done an uninstall of a couple of other unrelated old programs just
to see if the "Add/Remove" function was at fault...it works fine for other
programs.

I should have said that my intent is to hopefully add back in, the missing
components that would then allow me to fully uninstall vers 2009, and get me
on the way to upgrading to 8.5 (2008). ;-)

OK...I'm back in business using vers 8.1 and that's good enough for me right
now.

Hi,

8.1 will do the job (although personally I think 8.5 is better, just given the some of the
connectivity fixes for voice/video). But just out of curiosity, did you just try running the
2009 installation again during (as opposed to going to add/remove) this process and if so,
what exactly happened?

Hey Jonathan...here's a link to the 24mar post I made...you might want to
start there...hehe. Subject: Re: wont let me sign in error code 80070312

I also left a bunch of posts on your Spaces blog where hemingray helped me a
bunch too. I did try to run 2009 install initially but after 3 days the
sequence of events is getting a bit blurred...lol. I seem to remember that
it told me not possible as I already had it installed. It wouldn't allow me
to uninstall either. Your ZapMessenger only took out the tray icon and the
WLM link in the Start>Programs area. The rest is pretty much annotated in
you Live Spaces blog site. Your Spaces site was what really helped me get
over this issue...thanks mate.
I agree, 8.5 would be preferable over 8.1 , but it wouldn't let me go
straight to 8.5 as a download...so maybe I'll sneak up on it from the lower
side ie 8.1. Can you see any reason why 8.5 would not load? Is it built of
what the 8.1 already has on my system?
I sure don't want to temp fate and screw this up again when I'm happy enough
with 8.1. I've already started to get the popups suggestion to 'downgrade'
to 2009...lol ...annoying eh?
Not sure if I can answer much more here that isn't already layed out in you
Spaces blog pages. Thanks again mate for all your help...BTW, if you ever
stop into Elora, I'll buy ya a beer or two or three. ;-)
Oh here's the other blog where I got a bunch of help too...
