I had to reinstall xp and am presently updated on all updates these were
listed under optional. Should I reiunstall (update) these as well?

Only install the Optional Updates if you determine you need them.

You should install all Critical Updates.

Generally do not get Driver Updates from Windows Update.
Instead, get them from the hardware manufacturers website.

i am havein problems with my laptop it has started up fine apart from all the
displays are fuzzy what do i do

Sounds like you need a video driver.
Go to the laptop manufacturers website and get the latest video driver for
your operating system.

Otherwise since this is a Windows Update newsgroup, you should ask further
questions in a newsgroup specific to your operating system:
