Reinstalled windows; how do I get all updates?

I just had to reinstall windows XP SP 1 from my CD.

I was expecting to be told that I needed to install SP2, but SP isn't on the
list of updates.

Worse, all the updates that I had installed in the past are still listed in
my installation history.

This was a fresh install, into a new directory (the old was virus kill). I
did move my documents and settings folder (to keep my personal files, etc,
intact), however windows update will not offer me updates that it thinks I
have gotten.

How, or can, I either clear my installation history, or get the update
software to actually check which updates are on my hard drive, and not just
in the server-side memory?
