I have vista premium installed on an old motherboard with a pentium-
3.0; to improve performance I have aquired a new mobo and a dual cor
processor. Can I just move my HDD with Vista installed, video board
memory, and modem to the new mobo and do a repair install somehow?
hate to scrub and clean install

I have made moved XP and Windows Server 2003 OS installations onto
completely different hardware and also made old OS installations into
VirtualPC virtual machines using Acronis TrueImage Workstation with the
Universal Restore addon, many times.

I have not tried moving a Vista installation this way yet, but I have tried
making an older installation into a virtual machine, and it did not work.

The latest builds of TrueImage Workstation with Universal Restore are
supposed to work with Vista, and there are not as many complaints on the
forums than I would expect if my problem was common, so you might want to
check it out..

I did that, and Vista found and installed all the new drivers needed for the
new motherboard. A re-install wasn't necessary on my machine. I did ,
however , have to call up for re-activation, which took about 6 minutes.

What were your old and new motherboards? Did they have the same chipset?
