Relocated 'Files' folder not syncing

Active Sync 3.7, Windows XP, PocketPC2002

I've relocated my 'Files' folder on my computer, and when
I sync, it still syncs the PocketPC to the old Files
folder. I don't see a place in ActiveSync where I can put
in the new location of the Files folder.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Doug

While I think I have see a registry edit for this, afaik, there is no
recommended solution to change the default sync folder location... you
have to use the location generated by the activesync program.

This is a long standing known issue.

Hi,
You need to change the system to find the folder. From the ActiveSync
Troubleshooting Guide
http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/active...Configuration: :
"If you want to choose another folder to sync on the PC other than Pocket_PC
My Documents, modify the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE
Services\Partners\73491db6\Services\Synchronizatio n where the partner id
73491db6 is always different for each partnership. Microsoft does not
support modifying the registry so do this at your own risk! "

If this is such a long standing issue, why has Microsoft not fixed it? Is
customer satisfaction so low on their priority list?

The "Files Synchornization Settings" window shows the directory to synch to
and you can even get a editting cursor, but any attempt to change the text
is ignored. Is it so dificult to allow editting and save the new
information?

It's not an issue as far as MS is concerned... simply something that a
number of users over the years really wanted control over.

There are some options, but will need to know your needs and wants...
such as... you want to keep Word's doc directory the same and still sync
some files? ...you can keep the actual docs in the sync directory and
generate shorcuts that will live in the Word directory.

Depending on what you have on your pocket PC you can
change folders if you want to bad enough. First backup
your device. Active Sync has a full backup under Tools.
Then totally reset your Pocket PC by turning of the
battery power. Now you can go through the initial
install process for your pocket PC. In the install you
are allowed to choose any path you want for your files.
After installing with your new path your device will use
it. Now if nessicarry restore the backed up copy to your
device.

Several weeks after I got my Pocket PC I left it out of
its cradel for too long and it lost all files and my
setup. I was still new to the Pocket PC and so just
reinstalled everything. My computer wouldn't allow me to
use my original path because it thought my device was a
new device so I chose a different path. Everything else
went smoothly and my Pocket PC was working with my PC. I
then copied all my files from the old FILE folder to the
new one on my PC and then Sync'd to my device. I now had
all my data back ok. At that time I didn't know about
ActiveSync's backup feature and didn't have a backup.
But I hadn't installed any programs or used Pocket
Outlook either. So for simple enough setups you can skip
the backup step. Good luck.
