Relocated "user32.dll"

Twice now auto update has alerted me about updates, then says it has
installed them and I need to reboot.

When the computer comes back up I get this message that
c:/windows/system32/user32.dll has been "relocated in memory" and whatever
application it is associated with will not work properly.

Everything seems to work just fine, but every time I start up the machine I
get this message.

I finally downloaded a copy of user32.dll, went to C:/windows/system32 and
renamed the "user32.dll" I found there, then copied the new one into
"system32."

That seemed to fix it.

But then, auto-update struck again and I had the exact same problem.

Checking the Microsoft Windows Update site tells me I need XP updates
KB927978 and 925672. I assume these are the ones that auto-update has been
trying to install.

Help.

Hi Jim,

Have a look at this MSKB article:

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you receive an error
message when you start the computer: "Illegal System DLL Relocation"

I had the user32.dll errors too. I went through the bother of backing up my
precious files and ran the hotfix. The error messages have gone away, but now
I am having problems with my Sympatico email. The error messages are
happening for both sending and receiving messages. They are intermittent, and
one user's email account will be fine, while the other two users' accounts
are failing. Here is an example of the error messages:

Task 'pop6.sympatico.ca - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook
is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue
to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).'

Can anyone help me to remove the update from April 3? Are there any other
suggestions?

(I would have started a new post, but for some reason I can only reply to
existing ones. Sorry.)

I have a similar problem. After performing the latest update on XP Pro, I get
the error "The System DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application
will not run properly. The relcation occured because the DLL
C;\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an adress range reserved for Windows
system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

I havn't done anything else lately, so the update is definitely the culprit
and the Properties of the HHCTRL.OCX file tells me it is a Microsoft item.

So, how do I fix this?

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

J
sigh! - Does anything work right the first time?

Same error and same error message too after update overnight and restarting.
I'm going to go to control panel, and try to delete the last update. I did a
search for file on my computer and found this file in question is an Active X
file. Microsoft- need to redo this update.

So why aren't you installing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448
Note that KB935448 does not "only" fix issues with Realtek software
but a lot of other software to.

That would be the worst thing to do, since that update (KB925902) is
a *really* important one fixing more than one huge security hole which
could lead to a compromised machine running malware from whoever wants
the machine to run it.

So *please* leave KB925902 installed or reinstall the update.

Bye,
Freudi
