Hello,
I have a SBS2003 server running exchange, dhcp, dns and Remote Access Server at my house. It has only one LAN adaptor.
SBS2003 is on service pack 2 according to System Properties but in the Registry it shows ServicePacknumber 1.
I have a VPN router at my office that is creating a VPN tunnel to the server at my house so the two lans are connected. All was working fine when I closed the office for holidays 2 weeks ago . I returned yesterday and the VPN was connected but not accessing the resources.
The router is connecting fine and the client is logging on but cant access anything.
I checked the Remote Access Server settings on the server and found out that the clients are being issued private ip addresses (169.xxx.xxx.xxx). The RRAS settings are on DHCP. The DHCP server seems to be working fine.
I have tried reinstalling the RRAS using the wizard but I get an error (8007001) in the rraslog at "running IExpress to build the package".
I searched on forums and KBs and while looking through the registry HKLM\software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Connec tivity\RRAS i noticed that the DHCPServerIP key was blank.
I added the ip of the server and restarted but the client is still getting a private IP. RAS is set to issue ips through DHCP.
As i said at first this was working fine until 2 weeks ago. I have not touched any settings on the server.
However a few days ago i did notice the LAN adaptor was "acquiring IP address" which did not make sense because it is manually assigned.
I just checked the properties to make sure that the IP was manually assigned and right (and it was).
Remote desktop is working flawlessly.
My clientsapps folder is at the default location (c:\) and the registry shows SP1 installed.
I tried setting up a static pool. The clients do get a proper IP address but still cant connect.
I disabled RRAS and ran CEICW and then ran RRASWIZ with the same result error 80070001 here is an excerpt of the pertinent part:
Created temp directory CMP1A.tmp
Copying required template files to the temp directory returned OK
Updating CMP template returned OK
Updating CMS template returned OK
Updating SED template returned OK
Creating proxy configuration file returned OK
*** Running IExpress to build the package returned ERROR 80070001
Specifying error location (in CMAK) returned OK
*** CRRASCommit::CommitCMAK returned ERROR 80070001
*** CRRASCommit::CommitEx returned ERROR 80070001
I ran the SBS Best Practice Analyzer Tool and corrected most of the issues (that seemed unrelated) there except one that does not seem to make sense where it tells me there are 3 or more network adaptors installed on the server. There is only one NIC. I even checked the device manager to make sure that there were not any ghosts.
Ipconfig does show a whole bunch of entries. not sure what they are maybe that is where the problem is:
Note that the PPP adaptor here is showing a 192.xxx address because the settings are still on static pool but it is still not working. The client is now connected but cant access the ressources.
