Hi

I'm using Windows Live Messenger version 8.5.1302.1018, and I'm trying to
help a friend with a computer problem he's facing. But when he submits a
request, I get a message "Remote Assistance Is not installed or its disabled
on your system"

I've made sure that it's enable in My Computer no problem there.

But when I click on the Activity's menue Remote Assistance Is Not Listed
what can cause this?

Disabled Windows Services of some kind?

Thanks

Rob

Greetings Rob,

When it's not listed like that, it generally means that the registry entries for Remote
Assistance have been removed on your machine.

This problem shows up from time-to-time, so I really do suspect there's some application out
there which flags it as something bad or removeable (like a registry cleaner, which are
pieces of software that should be avoided).

Either way, shut down Messenger and then download and run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...assistance.reg

Hopefully after starting Messenger after this, the option should become available to you.

Hi Rob,

You're very welcome. By the way, have you run anything like I mentioned (a registry cleaner,
etc.)? Just curious as I'd like to narrow down where this problem comes from.

Hi Jonathan,

Noticed this thread and have a quick question; Will your registry fix work
on WinXP x64?

I have experienced the same problem on my Mum's pc, upgrading from an old
version of Messenger (I forget which but fairly old may be 5.1, as it was the
only one I could get to install on XP x64) to a newer Live 8.5 version.

Many thanks

Chris
