remote assistance trouble

I have Vista, and I am trying to remote assistance for someone esle. They
have XP. They both have the same version of MS Messenger(I know because I set
their's up on their computer) But when they click remote assistance nothing
happens. Is it because I have Vista and they have XP. BTW, the version of IM
is 8.5, and it is all US versions on everything
