Any suggestions? A friend and I canot get it working either way. When I
requested it I turned off OneCare firewall. Are there any ports I should
open up? He runs XP Sp2, Vista Ultamte here, both have linksys routers and
OneCare.

I have had the same problem on & off. There does not seem to be any reason I
can think of - some days it links up, others it will not. Only thing I can
think of is my friend is very near the distance limit for the ADSL link.

One thing that seems to help with that friend is to use Skype for the voice
call & WLM only in the RA mode - no voice.

I have another friend where we can start RA even when WLM is providing the
voice call.

Go figure!?

Mike.

Thanks guys, the more that come out with the issue, the better chance of
getting it fixed. And help files on it would help too.

Hi Eric,

Turning off the Firewall is not such a good idea.

Leave both Firewalls on. It is the only way to figure it out.

Try connecting to your friend twice in a roll. I usually have problems
with someone at first but the second straight attempt usually works.

If it fails on the second attempt., using McAfee Personal Firewall
7.1.113 here, open up the incoming log and see what is being blocked. Make
sure to record or Show port numbers in inbound events view.

Once you know what is being blocked, you can Trust the IP Address or
Open up the Port.

Eric, my first suggestion to you is to make sure both routers are UPnP
enabled and leave the OneCare firewall turned ON. I have always been able
to connect to others when they require assistance from me but the Remote
Assistance connection would not work when they would try to connect to my
system. I'm also using Windows Live OneCare and I changed one setting on my
Firewall and now they are able to connect to me. Open WLOC / Change OneCare
settings / Firewall / Advanced Settings / Sharing. Under "If enabled, allow
Remote Desktop connections to this computer from:" select "All computers,
including those on the Internet...Click Apply OK. When Remote Assistance is
not needed, I would change your OneCare firewall setting back to the default
of "Only computers on my local network (subnet)."
