If she and you are both on MSN messenger, she should be able to send you a
remote assistance request
Actions>Request remote assistance...

I have used Hamachi or the remote desktop.
But those require a little setup.

hello Davy, welcome to the vista forums, arty:
unless your sisters machine is XP professional [not home] then the
built-in remote desktop in windows won't work,.

this would suggest you use a VNC type program to achieve the link, one
I use successfully is ultraVNC, which is totally free

'UltraVNC: Remote Support Software, Remote Support tool, Remote Desktop
Control, Remote Access Software, PC Remote Control'

Others are available, just do a search for VNC freeware and you should
see plenty of response

You could also take a look at one of the online remote access providers
such as LogMeIn

https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en

hope this helps

Hi,

As others have pointed out, there are third party solutions that will likely
be easier to use.

To answer the question: For you to do this she will need to have XP Pro and
install the IIS components, then provide you with a user account name and
password (you cannot use an unpassworded account) as well as her external
IP. If she is behind a router, she will need to set up port forwarding on
3389 to the systems internal IP. For the external IP, she can either obtain
it from the router or a site like www.whatismyip.com Note that while you are
logged in to her machine, she will not be able to use it or see what you are
doing.

A great tool to use in tihs case would be Techinline Remote Desktop
'Techinline Remote Desktop' (http://www.techinline.com) I use it all the
time to access my clients' computers and since it doesn't require any
installation on either end, it's very easy to use and reliable

You can do whatever she can do, just download it and install. If by some
chance a reboot is required you can do that and just wait for it to come
back up as long as the software at her end is running as a service and
autostarts. Depending If you use other than RDP you may have a setting
for this so read the docs...

If you're not admin on the machine, then you can't install it, so you
would have to login to her machine using her admin account remotely.

You either let her download it and she installs it, or you download it
to her machine by logging into the machine remotely and then doing the
install on her machine.

You can also transmit a file from your machine to her machine using a
remote desktop solution too, which as I recall, she can pull the file
from your machine to her machine using a remote desktop solution.
