Howdy'all - I use Remote Desktop a LOT as I'm on the road quite a bit and
often need to connect back for files and other things. It's running Vista
Ultimate and I connect back with a work laptop that runs XP. I've noticed
sometimes when I restart the home machine remotely it logs me out then just
kind of stalls at the welcome screen without actually restarting or giving me
a login prompt. When I return home and check the machine, I can bring up the
login screen, but it says at the password prompt that it's currently
connected to "YOUR-F78BF48CE2". That would imply to me that somebody else
has connected to the remote desktop session - I googled that computer name
and have found numerous references to it but belonging to many different
people. Does anybody know what this is or what's actually happening when
it's taken over a remote desktop session? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

There are secured and Unsecured computer names. You chose the Unsecure
option and paying for it.

Hey thanks alexB thats great info. Was I crazy to assume that anybody other
than those in my System Properties>Remote>Select Users would be able to
connect to me? As it's set up now I'm the only one allowed to connect under
that restriction.

I am happy you did it. Incidentally, I appeared to be a guru but I am in
fact not at all. Actually just today I set up a secured computer name for
myself on one of my machines and was about to make a connection but clearly
I am lacking the knowledge to do it. I mean, practical knowledge. What I
need is to get to some of my unprivileged folder on the other machine, not
just the desktop. So if you could give me a brief lecture I would greatly
appreciate it. Isn't is ironic?

I am working on it though, perhaps by tomorrow I will get a handle on it.
