Remote Registry Service

My Win2K Server appears to be suffering from the "deadlock" described in KB
article 833974. However, I am having trouble with the workaround. The
computer will not let me stop the remote registry service. I tried changing
the start-up option to disabled (or manual), but it freezes when I click 'OK'
or 'Apply'. My question is: is there any other way to stop this service,
either forced or through some start-up option?
