remotely detect reboot required

does anybody knows how to write an application to remotely detect if a
server require to be rebooted after automatic updates?

I've found something about "Windows Updates Agent API" but no examples on
how to use it and it's a bit confusing me.

Download %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log
and look at the last few lines. With PowerShell you could do that
check more precisely.
