In my Vista laptop I keep getting an update for IE8 to be installed. I do
not have IE8 in it I have IE7. How can I remove this IE8 from the list of
updates? Been having it pop daily now and keeps itself in Taskbar for me to
install that update.
Thanks so much for your time.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Run Windows Update manually via the Start menu | Uncheck/deselect IE8 and
hide it ("Don't show me this update again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

====

How to hide updates in Vista: Click View available updates | Right-click on
the update you wish to hide | Click Hide Update | Confirm the UAC (User
Account Control) if appropriate.

To restore/unhide updates in Vista: Start | Control Panel | System And
Maintenance (If you are using Classic View, skip this step) | Windows Update
| Restore Hidden Updates | Find and select the update you wish to install |
Restore. You can now reselect it and install through the normal process.

====

Please review your Automatic Updates options:

Tip: You may want to select the "let me choose" option.
