Greetings,

In a standard Messenger configuration, you can do so from Add or Remove Programs or Programs
and Features in the Control Panel.

If you're using 2009, it'll be under "Windows Live Essentials".

Version 8.1.....

Live Messenger appears in Add/Remove (two entries actually - 31.74mb and
28.03mb), but they both ask me for the Windows Live Messenger disk. What
disk?

Have tried several of MS "tools" and none have worked. Currently running
your ZapMessenger. Been running about an hour now with no signs of stopping.

Have looked through the registry and wondering if I delete the references to
Live Messenger if that would fix the issue.

The MS Cleanup Tool hasn't worked on my system for several years.

Looked in Program Files\Installshield Informaton and didn't see anything
that applied, but then I could only really look at the ones that had ini
files.

I have terminated all running apps, and made sure that there wasn't a second
instance of WLM install in processes.

In any case, I now have NO WLM to use.

Found a solution. It was easy and took less than 10 minutes total. It
involved a registry key deletion.

I did a search for "Live Messenger". It produced 3 distinct keys which I
exported first and then deleted. Install of the new WLM did not work until a
reboot. The install went perfectly.

As a side note - I don't care at all for the new interface. Looks a little
"femmie" to me.

I would list the keys, but not sure if they would be exactly the same for
everyone, and this was for version 8.1....

Hope this works for others.
