Remove entry from Unistall or Change Program List

Hello!
I hope I can explain this clearly. I have a problem since upgrading from XP
to Vista (which I do like). Windows Update keeps trying to update Microsoft
..Net Framework 1.1 and failing. Tracking down the KB 923100 which provides
the "fix" telling me to uninstall then reinstall the Framework, but nothing
seems to work, and it looks like I have to get that item off the list to
stop this. I don't even know what .Net framework does. Can anyone point me
to a cure???
