How do I have Windows Mail remove messages from POP3 server when I open my
email? Is there another email system on Windows 7 that is more like Outlook
Express in XP?

This group is for Windows Live Mail.
You have to configure Windows Mail to access your email accounts. By
default, Windows Mail (and most POP3 email programs) will remove the
messages from the server after downloading them.

Windows 7 doesn't come with an email program, so most users will download
and use Windows Live Mail.
However, if you have Win 7 Professional or higher, you can run the virtual
XP mode, which includes Outlook Express.

Both Windows Live Mail and Windows Mail(Vista only) have the ability to delete the message off the server once downloaded to the
local account.
- usually accomplished by checking your account settings for the pop3 account and uncheck 'Leave messages on server'

Normally your messages are removed from the providers mail server after you
downloaded them. Only when a checkmark is placed at Tools/Accounts/(Select
Account)/Properties/Advanced/(Section 'Delivery')/'Leave a copy of messages
on server' then the messages are NOT removed after download.

Windows Live Mail, Vista Windows Mail and Outlook Express have exactly
the same options when downloading mail from a POP3 mail server.

There is no option in any of the programs to delete a message from the
POP3 server when you OPEN a message. There is an option to delete
messages from the POP3 mail server when they are DOWNLOADED from the
server into the program. That option is the same in all 3 programs.
Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced. Uncheck the option to
leave a copy of the messages on the server.
