Remove oem and replace with another oem

New notebook came installed with Vista Home Premium OEM 32 bit. I would like
to install Vista Ultimate 64 bit. To save money I would like buy the OEM
version of Ultimate 64 bit. I understand I can not move it to another
computer. fyi: No dvd for original install.

Question: has any one out there done this? Any glitches? Did you install
over the original or slicked the pc and did a clean install?

Have look on eBay under Vista Ultimate. They sell OEMs on there.

Getting a legitimate software license of any kind from eBay is
something of a crap shoot. One should be very careful buying any
software on eBay, as eBay makes no prior effort to ensure that such
sales are legitimate. The problems stem from two completely different
sources, but have the same results: the buyer gets ripped off. A great
many people don't fully understand the terms of the license they own,
and don't understand that they cannot legitimately resell it, and -
worse still - there are a great many sellers who do know that they're
selling bogus licenses. eBay reacts only when someone files a complaint,
and then all that really happens, especially in the case of the many
deliberate fraudsters, is the seller of the pirated software returns
using a different alias, to continue selling illegitimate licenses.

Just remember that the Vista OEM will also be non-transferable. If you
purchase a Vista upgrade, it will cost somewhat more than OEM, but it will
be transferable.

Hi DP I am definitely buying from NewEgg. The are a great company.

Did you install over the top of you oem or did you do a clean install? Keep
in mind the oem home premium is 32 bit and I am moving to ultimate 64 bit.
This is the reason why I can not run an upgrade after extensive research. OEM
vs retail and $.

My machine had XP x64. I had the builder install it. (I'm kind of an early
adopter.)
So when I installed Ultimate, I did it as a dual boot. So basically it was a
clean install but as a dual boot.
My machine is still set up as dual boot, but I rarely use XP. I have it set
up so that it will default-boot into Vista in about three seconds unless I
choose otherwise. (that is, when I know I want to boot into XP I have to sit
at my computer with my finger on the arrow keys so I can quickly choose XP
before my three seconds is up.)
