How to remove "Public" icon from Vista toolbar?

Any way to remove the "Public" icon from my Vista toolbar?

Right-clicking on that icon does not offer any choice to delete it, or
even hide it for that matter.

Clicking on a blank area of the toolbar offers no option for removing
that "Public" icon.

Darn icon just "popped up" in the toolbar one day, now I can't get rid
of it - - - No big deal, it is just that I prefer to install my own
icons in the toolbar, instead of having the damn OS jam those icons down
my throat, with no way of removing them. grrr

I assume I am calling the toolbar by its correct name, it is that area
in the extreme lower-right corner of my screen.

The lower right portion of the taskbar is called the Notification Area.

I'm not sure what a "public" icon is, unless it's the network icon?
If you right-click on it, does it show anything?

To change what shows in the Notification Area, right-click on the taskbar,
select Properties, click on the tab for Notification Area.

Hi Mark,

In addition to what Dave suggested, click Hide for the Public icon.
This tutorial will show you how.

Thanks, I am new to Windows, do not know the correct terms yet.

It says "Desktop" just to the left of the icon, "Public" jist to the
right of the icon.

When I click on it, it displays a window with about six folders, "Public
Pictures", "Public Documents", etc.

Thanks, that did the job, darn icon was not listed in the Notification
Area, but I found it listed in the Toolbar tab.

That removed it, as I desired, thanks again.

Now I gotta figure out why it suddenly popped up in the first place.

Probably Vista's way of trying to help me.<g>
