Not sure how to remove it from desktop? I know there is an option
somewhere to hide desktop icons. I don't want them all gone, just the
recycle bin.

Just right click it and select delete, it will have the same effect as
removing the check under personalize. Note however, your deleted items will
still go first to the recycle bin unless you first change its settings in
its properties to NOT send deleted files to the Recycle Bin.

Hi gizbug

You can just right click the Recycle Bin and click Delete to remove it
If you want to ever bring it back, see this link for how

Two months ago my Vista had the problem, for which you describe the
solution in that link, but it did not work in my case.
I had to find a system restore point that fixed the problem.
It thus still remains a mystery why the recycle bin suddenly stopped
refreshing automatically.

Hi Marco

It sometimes is caused when the Recycle Bin is accidently deleted.
However in your case, it could of been some incompatible program tha
may have caused it. Do you remember if you installed or change
anything right before this happened? With Vista, it could be a numbe
of things that can affect the refreshing. Wish I had a more specifi
answer for you
