Somehow sp2 was downloaded to my pc. tooltray keeps on prompting if i
want to install it. i know that windows stores this in
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download which is occupying a
significant amount of space (592meg of 600meg free space remaining.) So
it would be great if I can reclaim this space. Can I safely delete all
files and folders in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download?

Thanks for the help

yes, is a temp directory, and the content is automatically deleted after
ten days from download, for more info review the following article, (FAQ 4)

Thanks for the reply. I really don't want to wait for 10 days because
I'm running out of space and it's affecting the speed of my laptop and
therefore my work.

Can I delete all items and folders under
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download now?

Thanks

I deleted all items and folders under
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download now and freed up to 600MB of
memory. So far my laptop's ok and faster. Thanks.

However, I keep on seeing this globe icon on the tray saying Updates
ready to install. When I checked it, it is for the installation of SP2.
(I didn't continue.)

Question is: If I deleted all the folders, where is this ghost SP2
installation files located? I'm thinking I could get more space if I
find it and delete it because I don't need it.
