In order to remove Vista, you would need to reformat
your hard drive and then install another operating sytem
compatible with your computer's modern hardware.

I would suggest going to somewhere like...Iolo.com and using a free trial of
their DriveScrubber software. It will remove ALL files on a drive though, not
just the OS.

Try your local computer shop, not DEPT Store, or eBay(be careful there), and
ask them for a copy of XP Professional.
In your computer, in BIOS, set it to boot from CD/DVD Drive, insert disk,
reboot, load XP files, delete vista partition, formatt Drive, install XP

Also, take a look at the computer manufacturer's support and download pages.
You need to make sure there are hardware drivers available for XP.

It may be possible, if XP drivers are available for your hardware.
If you're up to it, make a list of all the hardware in your machine,
motherboard, etc and find XP drivers for all hardware.
Of not, enlist a friendly Geek (NOT the Geek Squad, they are related to
KevPan & Frank) to help.
Burn ALL the drivers to a CD or DVD.
(Personally, I prefer to install a second Hard Disk and make a dual boot
system...using one of several available third party boot managers)
Then get a copy of XP and boot from the CD, install XP and update the
drivers.
After running XP for a while, you may decide to kill the Vista partitiion,
or not.
Just make sure you make the Vista restore CD/DVD as recommended by the
manufacturer so you can redo Vista if necessary.
I replaced Vista with XP on my laptop and I've been pleased with the
results.
