After an upgrade, the legacy OS, software and user files are stored in the
windows.old folder. The sole purpose of this folder is to provide you with a
backup, one that you can also roll back the OS with. No software will run
out of this folder, it must be installed in and registerd to the appropriate
folders of the new OS.
Install Office, your anti-virus and other applications from their
installation media and/or files, pretty much the same way you installed them
on your old Windows edition. Copy your user files and folders from
windows.old\Documents and Settings\<username>\ to where you want them. Your
old Outlook emails and contacts are stored in .pst files in an Application
Data subfolder. They can easily be imported into the new installation of
Outlook. You may have to take ownership of old files in order to use them.
Legacy AppData files:
windows.old\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\
