I had a Sony notebook which was dropped and rendered the machine unusable.
I removed the HDD and stuck it into an external usb enclosure.
I can view the disk and browse it but I cannot see my Windows files just
some folders and the most part of the content - about 30 GB - are vxd
backup files from a long time ago.
Tried loading it in Linux but same thing.
What gives ? Anyone know?

single HD system? dual partitions? bitlocker?

file permissions? encryption? system key backed up to a flash drive or other media?

I am dumb. There were 2 partitions of course and your post prompted me to
realise that.
Thx,

Visit www.google.com and search for "professional data recovery".
Now you know the value of performing scheduled backups to an external
source, such as an external hard drive or an online backup service such
as www.mozy.com.
