Hi all,
Can anyone here tell me whether or not it is possible to remove "failed"
update from my Installed Updates List should the same update install
correctly after a previously failed installation attempt? The update in
question is Windows Search 4.0. Any ideas out there?

Operating System and Service Pack?

Personally - unless you have Vista - I'd uninstall said update completely.

I can tell you how to remove *all* updates from Update History:

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution <=this folder.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)
