I deleted a program in Windows Explorer instead of going throught the control
panel>add/remove prgrams route. But the program is still listed in the
Add/Remove Programs list. If I try to uninstall is, it fails becasue all the
files are already gone. So how do I remove the item from the Add/Remove
Programs list?

Thanks!

Eric

Eric,
Your best bet is to reinstall the program, then uninstall it correctly.
Simply deleting some files belonging to the program will leave lots of
detritus around which may cause harm later.

Hello Eric,

You have to remove the entry from the registry, but make a backup BEFORE
of all important DATA.
Modifying the registry is always dangerous.

Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall

Here you can find all uninstall information for every software, serach the
keys for your program and look for DisplayName and only remove this entry.

DO NOT DELETE the complete key!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then it should be deleted from the list.

Best regards

The best way to remove all the parts of a partially uninstalled program is to
use Smarty Uninstaller. This will scan your system and list all the programs
on your computer, including "broken" parts of programs. It will then run the
program's uninstaller (if present), and then rescan to list any pieces left
on your system. Clicking Cleanup will then remove all traces of your
program. A link to Smarty Uninstaller and other information about
install/uninstall problems can be found at the following tutorial. For
information on removing the listing from your Programs and Features, see the
second tutorial.
