Removing language packs to install SP2

Computer:

vista ultimate sp1
Office 2007 professional sp2

Environment:

win 2k3 AD

I began the installation of vista sp2 and received a pop up box
instructing me that I had unsupported languages installed. I go to
control panel:
regional and language options
-keyboard and languages-
install/uninstall languages
remove languages
Currently, there are 17 languages (besides my default, English)that need
to be uninstalled. I've attempted to uninstall them at once and vista
processes each language and says that it fails on all but one language.
If I uninstall them individually each language takes the hour and 1/2
to uninstall and I cannot afford to sit with it while it does each one.
Can this be done via command line or by script. IF it can, what would
the commands be?

Thanks,

David

One at a time is the only way I know of.

Hi David,

Thank you for your post.

After researching, I got the following Knowledge Base and would like to
share with you:

Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or
Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2: "Windows has detected unsupported
language files"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970087

From the document, we can see the two workarounds:

1. Wait for the stand-alone package for Windows Vista SP2.
2. Remove the unsupported language pack.

I know that you want to remove the language packs; however, based on my
research, there is no such command-line or script to remove the language
packs.

To remove a language pack from a Windows Vista, please follow the following
steps:

1. Click Start, type language options in the Start Search box, and then
click Regional and Language Options in the Programs list.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a
confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab, and then click Install/uninstall
languages in the Display language area.
Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a
confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

3. Click Remove languages, click to select the check boxes for the language
packs that you want to remove, and then click Next.

4. Click Remove, and then click Restart now after the removal process is
completed.

This will take a long time since there are 17 languages installed on
Windows Vista. Please just be patient to finish the procedure.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Nicholas Li

If you disable system restore, it goes a lot faster.
