removing old restore points

Hi all

I have recently upgrade to vista and during an AVG scan noticed that there
is a virus in an old XP restore point.

#1. Why did vista keep old XP restore points?
#2. How do i remove (delete) them? I have tried deleting from explorerand
using clean disks removing options but the restore points remain?

Turn off restore, reboot, turn on restore, then you're good to go.

Then, create your 1st restore point asap.

Thanks for the reply, but it didn't delete the old restores? The weird thing
is When I created the new restore It only shows C:\, E:\ and H:\ yet i have
two drives C and D which are partitioned to E F G H, E is the logical on C,
FGH logicals on D. YET the restore files that show the virus from old XP
restore point is on the F:\ partition?

Maybe just formatting that partition will fix it?

Create a new restore point then use the system tool "Disk Cleanup"
(Files from all users on this computer) in the "More options" tab click
the "Clean up..." button in the "System Restore and Shadow Copies"
section. This will remove all but the most recent restore points i.e.
the one you just created.

Thanks for the reply. UI tried that, unfortunately it never removes old
points. I have since formatted the partition, restore points gone, but i now
have an issue with desktop recyle bin not showing up and whenever i try to
delete a desktop shortcut I now get an explorer error message, just can't
win. LOL
