removing optional updates

I'm wondering about removing some optional updates I allowed to install. How
do I see if an update was an optional one? Looked in control panel and on
update history - see name of update but not if it was optional. Have read in
this discussion group that others are experiencing slowness after installing
updates and was hoping that uninstalling some of the optional ones would help
me with same problem. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Thank you for asking, PA Bear: I have Windows XP Professional Version 2002
with Service Pack 2. On the Microsoft Updates Home page there are the two
options of Express and Custom as far as checking for updates is concerned.
Some optional updates showed up when I clicked on custom. This was earlier
this month (March 2007).

I'd need to know what updates you installed earlier this month before I can
advise you, Joni. Your windowsupdate.log will tell you which updates were
installed and when.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

Also tell me exactly what problems you're having that you think uninstalling
one or more recent updates might resolve.
