Removing recent updates

There were some updates that were automatically installed a few weeks ago
relating to security. Now I'm constantly being spammed by windows that I
don't have a virus checker installed, (I don't by choice,) I have to log onto
a username whereas before I could just turn on the machine and walk away and
have it load, my computer seems to be experiencing memory leak issues where
it slows down as time goes on, and when I shut the machine off it doesn't
actually power down.

I'm running XP. I *could* do a system rollback, but I don't really want to
lose anything else that I've done in the last month if I can help it. Is
there any way I can remove this "security virus"?

whow ! try:
You must xp sp2 with the security checker.
if so and you really don't want it turn off the service
control panel administrative tools services security
center put it manual.

for the autologon
start run %windir%\System32\control.exe userpasswords2
uncheck box users must enter a users name ....
ok or apply enter the password if you got one or just click ok

so much for security...

now for power off
look in control panel power options advanced
if that does not work it's another problem (not the options).

memory leaks well, can't do much about that.

Thanks. That helped for two out of three, (or I'm assuming so since I haven't
rebooted yet.) I didn't see anything clearly related to the power-down issue
I'm having. Should I disable hibernation?

Ha..ha... that's something new.
I would turn that off and see if the computer shuts down ok.

I should have actually rebooted before responding last time. I'm getting,
rather than no log-on at start-up, an additional error message that says
something to the effect of "due to a log-in restriction, Windows can not log
on" - I forget the exact line, but I got it two out of three times, (and
Windows didn't load at allon the third.) After accepting the error message,
it simply shot me back on to the user select screen.

I didn't change the hibernation status (per latest exchange) and the machine
seems to power down.

How may user accounts do you have ? (beside administrator)
"it simply shot me back on to the user select screen."
If you can log in go back userpassword2 and undo.
if you can't try safe mode login as the administrator and undo.
Is there any accounts with a password?
Did you set any group policy for password ?
