Removing/Reinstalling Windows Update Strange Format C: Prompt

Anyway, read here on the newgroup to remove and reinstall Windows Update I
needed to

rd /S C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

It says it can't remove the Logs directory because it is not empty. Ok, no
problem really, but if I try to open the logs dir in explorer I get a prompt
that the drive is not formated and would I like to format c: Yes or No.

I chose NO

Apparently the Logs directory is not formatted NTFS and my alarmist attitude
tends to think rootkit here or something, I can view the directory in other
machines.

This machine also is doing a massive read or write to the HD after bootup
which lasts about 20 minutes, windows update doesn't work at all.

OS is XP Home SP2 on a Dell Notbook, don't think the specs matter.

Thanks,

Erik

Before running the command above, run this one:

net.exe stop wuauserv

You should now be able to delete the DataStore folder.

After the deletion of the folder, run this one:
net.exe start wuauserv
