Removing "unwanted" updates

Auto update downloaded a set of updates which I installed (as I thought,
three times), but I still get the "Updates are ready for your computer.
Click here to install" icon for KB946254, KB943976, KB942830, KB942831, KB
924883 and KB944941. As KB942830 and KB942831 are for Windows XP, I would
like for them to be installed; the others I can live without (only use basic
Word for letters).

How do I remove the downloaded updates which "refuse" to install?

Regards,

Keith

Just checked Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, Show updates and KB942830
and KB942831 are installed (14 February) but I still get the little yellow
shield and "Updates are ready...".

I'm running Windows XP with SP2 and IE6 (both updated OK on the previous MS
release)

1. IN RE those listed in Add/Remove Programs (i.e., KB942830 and KB942831),
see http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/needagain.htm

2. KB946254 (MS08-012), KB924883 (MS07-014; released February 2007!) are
critical security updates for MS Office and should be installed if you keep
Office installed.

KB944941 is the monthly OL Junk Mail Filter update; certainly optional,
but...

KB943976 cannot be identified.

What would you like to do about the updates in #2 above? What version(s)
and Service Pack(s) of MS Office is installed, Keith?

Updates are ready to be installed ?
Until you post the KB number of those and their status, no one can
advise you as to how to proceed, Keith.
If you blindly wish to hide them, then click the yellow icon, choose
Custom install, UNcheck the box next to the update[s], click OK/Close,
and then put a mark in the next window that pops up asking if you'd do
not want these updates offered again.

The system *will* be at risk, though. All of the other updates you've
listed, except for the Outlook Junk Mail update KB944941 and KB943976
which does not exist AFAIK, are ** Security updates **.

If the Word Viewer update was offered, than it was detected as being
installed. Same for Publisher.
Same for Internet Information Services [IIS].
If IIS is installed via Add/Remove Programs/Windows Components in the
Control Panel, then either get it updated or remove it to mitigate the
vulnerabilities, but do not leave it unpatched.

Same problem here. I'm using XP SP2 Home, and I have IIS installed on my
machine. The packages (kb942830 & kb942831) have been installed about 10
times within a week, everytime they were installed successfully, but were
installed once again on turning off computer. I did not find there two
packages from Add/Remove Programs somehow as someone suggested.

I do not use IIS every often, so I'm glad they can be ignored even though I
do not want to skip even one update. Hope MSFT can fix it soon.
