How to repair Windows XP Mode on Windows 7 (x64)

Hello,

Installed and ran Windows XP Mode on Windows 7 x64.
Forgot if and what I changed to the system configuration, but the result is
that I can not get Windows XP Mode to run anymore.
Tried deinstalling (VPC and Update as well), reinstalling, copying working
configuration files, edited accordingly all to be no help.
When I start XP Mode, there is a little bit of system activity, but XP Mode
is not launched.

How can I truely repair my installation of Windows XP Mode on W7 x64?

Any insight appreciated.

Otherwise finally you can also un/reinstall the KB :
KB958559 is responsible for the Windows Virtual PC it self and the package
WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe does only extract the XP workstation VM instance.

I followed the steps to reinstall XP Mode/Virtual PC, but whenever I click
XP Mode, the mouse cursor just briefly changes to hour-glass, no disc
activity and that's it. Nothing starts!
Getting hopeless here.

Hi Mr S.K.,

generally is your hardware capable to run VPC for Windows ?
On the download page there is a testing tool which identifys the capability
of your CPU.

If your VPC service is running, then you should only extract
WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe and attach it to your VPC.

something and I do not remember what is was and how to repair it.

Is there supposed to be a VPC Service? What is the exact name?

What other system dependencies are necessary?

Do you "Sleep" your computer between uses? There's a BIOS problem on some
PC's where it stops VT from running after that. So check for a BIOS update.

In the mean time, to see if that's the problem, reboot your PC and then go
into the BIOS, Disable VT (Hardware Virtualization), save it, turn off the
PC, turn it back on and go into the BIOS again, turn on VT, save it and
power off again, then power on a boot like normal and try WVPC.

Yes, I use Sleep.
Tried your suggestions: Disable VT in BIOS. Shutdown. Enable VT in BIOS.
Shutdown.
Start windows.
Start Windows XP mode ... still same behavior. App start indication (hour
glass) briefly, then nothing. No activity, no messages.

interesting - that would be mean that your is VT ready.
What is happening in eventlog side, anything which points to VPC ?

If nothing else had worked, remove completely the VPC components from your
system as described here :

1. If available do an BIOS update to the latest release and check your
eventlogs if any issues are monitored.
2. confirm virtualization settings in BIOS
3. download and run "HAV Check Tool" to confirm that your system is
correctly configured and is VT capable

4. Finally install VPC for Windows 7

When you face any issues during these steps please let me know.

PS : Please check your eventlogs and provide any error information which can
be related to hardware/VPC issues
